4831 ogO   DANZIG AND MEMEL COLLECTION.

Parallel mint and used collection of several hundred stamps housed in a substantial Safe hingeless album, virtually all one of a kind, starting with the used then followed by the mint. Highlights include 1920 Danzig o/ps on Germanias with 7 1/2pf orange mint (#35), 30pf orange and black used (#40), 50pf purple and black used (#43) and scarce 1fr used (#47) requiring expertization, followed by the burelage surcharges with violet burelage points up and down complete mint (#25b/30b, #25c/30c), gray burelage points down 2mk on 25mk used (#27a), as well as the missing burelage error on the 1mk on 30pf (signed) and another example with burelage with shifted o/p causing missing stars at top, also signed. Then issues of the early 1920s highly compete, with better varieties noted such as the 1922 50m gold and red shade (#94a) mint never hinged and used, 1930 o/p 75pf mint, signed, 1937 Magdeburg semi-postals souvenir sheet used (#B21a), Daposta sheets, etc, etc. The Memel is also very well-filled with more than a hundred of the Lithuanian Occupation surcharges on white knight issues, with both mint and the scarcer used, including the three values on 1000m blue mint (#N106/N114). A very worthwhile collection with condition generally far above average, an opportunity at our estimate even without considering the scarce Danzig first issues awaiting expertization. Please inspect.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4834 ogO   imageDOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO 1950s WITH STRONG CLASSICS.

Many of the elusive stamps of the first classic issues, mint and used present. Starting with Scott #1, four margined example, the ,1/2 real black on rose with wove paper, expertised on reverse, with neat octagon strike (cat $600), followed by Scott #2, also four margined, this unused signed on reverse. Then #1 unused, again four margined as well as further beat up copy of #2, still collectable, please note condition overall is far better than normally encountered. Then follows a study of the laid paper with #3, the ,1/2 real black (cat $525) unused showing most of the simulated perfs, cut close. , Then Scott #4 the 1 real black on straw, also expertised, again showing the simulated perfs, the unused example in our opinion being better than the used. Then follows types A3 and A4, the rectangulars from the ½, real onwards with Scott #5, #6 and #7,etc. Similarly the 1867 types, with a detailed study of these issues, with over a dozen examples, mostly unused, we did not see on first viewing #18 or #25 yet everything else present, cataloging 1000s of dollars leading on to the 1870/73 ,1/2 real, again mint and used, the latter with Scott #15 four margined, with an absolutely gorgeous concentric circle postmark, as well as black oval cancel well juxtaposed. Then follows page after page of virtually all complete series, i.e. the 1879s and 1880 rouletted in color, the network covering stamp including fancy and color cancels, as well as 'without network' overprints, an important range of further o/p material from the 5cts on 1ct green to the 5 pesos on 1p gold high value, a very impressive couple of pages with no doubt varieties and non-Scott listed to be found, etc. Similarly the 1875/91 complete, the manuscript cross 1891 UPU from the 1 centavo on 5cts dark blue through to the 1 peso on ,1/2 ct sky blue, this series of 6 has the top value signed and also includes the 1fr on 2cts imperf. Then on to the turn of the century, comprehensive through to maps, as well as the 1902 issues including all the centers inverted, followed by further overprint studies for the 1904 types including inverted o/ps and virtual completion thereafter, with varieties through to the 1950s. A truly exciting collector&rsquo,s collection, the likes of which are not often seen in today's market, offered intact as received.

4835 ogOc   ETHIOPA AN OUTSTANDING AND IMPORTANT COLLECTION,

A treasure trove of thousands of stamps, mint and used, singles, multiples and postal history, on album pages, glassines, auction cards and loose, forming what was once a specialist collector's 'work in progress' holiding, loaded with pre-1930 issues and with 100s in the Menelik and lion of Judah early issues alone. The accumulation requires organisation and this description will only represent a haphazard glimpse of the better kind of material present, so please view thoroughly as anything could be here. We note 1895 first issues inc. large plate number blocks of the 1/2g red and 4g lilac brown, 1907 officials written up on quadrille pages with lots of errors inc. letters double and inverted, numerals double, letters omitted in pair with normal and numerals omitted in block of four with normal. 1905 '5 centimes' on 16g black 'malekt' (#56) with surcharge inverted, 3.20fr surcharge mint, signed (#49), a chaotic group of postage due 'T' o/ps assembled as genuine, etc. Among the multiples are 1917 Empress Zauditu coronation o/ps in part sheets and two full sheets of three panes of 25 on the 1/2g rose and 2g blue showing all the constant varieties such as shifted dates, further large multiples of the first airpost o/ps, imperfs of the 1931 airposts seen on an album page, 1930 1m red and black with o/p missing 'i' in Selassie, 1944 Menelik II centenary series complete in pairs on FDC, 1945 red cross sheets with spectacular full sheet of fifty 10cts (#269) with 'V' o/p fully transposed to far right, lots of imperfs on the 1919 pictorials not listed in Scott, etc. Also seen an in-depth settings study on an irregular block of 23 of the 1926 1/2g on 8g with surcharge inverted and further errors on this issue inc. o/p double one inverted, album pages filled with 1929/30 airpost and Hayle Selassie o/ps inc. blocks with settings annotated, yet more material with Meneliks and lions inc bisect, 5cts surcharge, surcharges to 80cts on 4g and 16 piastres on 16g, etc, etc. An absorbing accumulation with so much more here than described that will delight the specialist, collector or dealer. Please inspect thoroughly allowing sufficient time to explore carefully this wonderful lot.

A very interesting range of material housed ,primarily ,in one volume with many of the key items proper certificates, a most attractive array with lots of multiples with marginal inscriptions, shifted overprints as well as good colorful postal history, etc. There are about 400 stamps in the main collection, with highlights including (mint unless otherwise stated) inverted o/ps on six different values of the 1918/19 series all signed, except the 40f (Sassone#13a, cat. &euro,450) which has Martinas cert. and a further cert for the 2f brown. Then double o/ps on the 3f and 20f both signed Martinas and a scarce used example of the 25f blue with o/p double one inverted accompanied by certificate, followed by the 10f rose and 15f purple rifleman semi-postals with o/ps inverted, signed, the 15f also with cert. Then further 15f examples mint and used this time with double o/ps, again both signed, the mint also with certificate. Further inverts are on the 10f scarlet and 20f brown King Charles of 1918, both signed and the former with cert, as well as a scarce example of the missing 'I' error on the 40f olive Zita with cert. (Sa#26d, cat. &euro,800). Also in the overprints on Hungarian issues is the 2f olive green and red special delivery, double o/p used, with most of one o/p in the top margin (reinforced perfs) with cert. Also seen with 'F UME' errors are the 20f brown and the 1k orange newspaper stamp, each signed twice. The collection continues in even more depth on the issues specifically for Fiume, with the 1919 semi-postals complete mint, then the 'valore globale' surcharges with many multiples inc. blocks of four and six of the 5cor on 5cor, as well as errors inc. inverted o/p on 20cts orange, dramatically shifted into the margin on 60cts rose and double on the 80cts lilac and 10cor dark violet, the latter two again with certificates. Then follow the 1920 d'Annunzio series and 1921 'Governo Provvisorio' o/ps complete, the 1921 and 1922 constituent assembly o/ps complete, 1923 Venetian ship series complete mint never hinged, etc. Other interesting material includes a shifted o/p on the 1921 4cts on 10cts rose postage due showing 'segnatasse' at bottom (Sa#16t, cat. &euro,700) with cert., the scarce 1920 'Reggenza Italiana' 1L on 25cts indigo signed, a colorful 1925 label for the commercial farming expo in Fiume, a series of surcharges to the 20L on Italian stamps for the Yugoslav occupation in 1945, etc. There isn't the space to give a full picture of the wonderful postal history here yet a few highlights include Hungarian stamps used on Fiume advertising and postcard of the town, Hungarian stationery used at Fiume, 'Governo Provvisorio' covers inc. 30cts pair together with 10cts Milan printing pair (without line) on advertising cover to Vienna with certificate (Sa#178, cat. &euro,400), both 1919 'franco' surcharges single usage on attractive registered covers, etc, etc. There is also a work-in-progress album of old-fashioned album pages with a few hundred more stamps to investigate with the intention of eventually incorporating into the main collection. An outstanding and exciting collection to study with many scarce stamps, viewing is a delight. Includes Martinas Fiume reference book.

4839 nh, og   FRANCE, EXTRAORDINARY RANGE OF SOWER DEFINITIVE, 'LA CREME DE LA CREME',

Wonderful old-time accumulation of more than 750 'sower' issues of the early 1900s, predominantly in mint multiple format, virtually all never hinged, all intensely crammed in a battered stockbook. There is virtually nothing ordinary here, with strength in plate blocks, 'coin daté,s' blocks, inter-panneau and gutter blocks, advertising, etc, as well as very unusual and scarce postally used examples of specimen and 'annulé,' overprints. The earliest issue here is the 1903 15cts 'semeuse ligneé,' sower with 'GC' imprint blocks, one with inter-panneau plate number 9, then the 'semeuse fond' issues inc. 5cts green booklet pane, 10cts red and other multiples in different shades with plate blocks of ten, then 5cts pink coin daté,s blocks, 25cts blue again with early better shades inc scarce inter-panneau block of 18 and plate 7 inter-panneau GC block of four, later dark blue inter-panneau plate number pairs, then 25cts pale blue specimen o/ps with six used inc. superb cds copies, etc. Then 25cts offset on reverse blocks of six, the 35cts purple sheet corner imperf, 'annule' used pairs and singles and several used specimens, 35cts green chevron imprint block of 8, 40cts olive brown interpanneau plate numbers, coin daté,s block and 11 used specimens, etc. Then an excellent section of attractive advertising with 30cts red brown 'Byrrh' block of four mint and complete booklet pane of ten used, the 40cts vermilion, inc another used booklet pane for 'Gibbs' soap, followed by magnificent blocks of 20 of the 40cts with 'Huile Lesieur - pour la table' in margins and se-tenant labels. Further coins daté,s blocks follow, with lots of different daté,s on the 10cts green, 15cts dull violet brown, 25cts brown, 40cts pale gray blue, 40cts orange and 40cts purple, all in blocks of four, leading on to a great section of 'annulé,' o/ps in mint multiples with 25cts blue inter-panneau block of four plate with number 3, 30cts red brown inter-panneau pair, many more used specimen and annulé, o/ps on different denominations inc. 6 used 1.05fr red specimens, etc, etc. This is just an outline and this really needs to be seen to be appreciated for the diversity of issues represented, it is that unusual, in exceptional condition, never hinged virtually throughout with very little of the toning often found on these issues. A holding of this quality with so many different shades outside of Paris is very seldom seen. Completely uncataloged, with of course much with considerable premium for well centered never hinged present. Dealers of France, do not miss out on this great old time holding.
