Parallel mint and used collection housed in 7 Lindner albums, with condition for the most part far better than normally encountered. The mint is presented in the banded transparencies and the used directly underneath it on the album page, often exactly placed, so there are many better sets in parallel to discover when looked at carefully. Highlights include the #1 and #2 epaulettes both with four margins and the 10cts signed, then over twenty other Leopolds of the 1850s and 1860s including useful specialised perf varieties, through to early ,20th ,century with extensive Leopold II inc. bisects on piece, 1910/11 semi-postals complete mint and used (#B1/B24), 1914 red cross semi-postals complete used o cover (#B25/B30) and interesting color trials of these inc. Merode monument issues in imperf pairs, 5f blue 'franken' used (#121), 1918 red cross surcharges mint to 5fr plus used 2fr, 1fr orange helmet mint never hinged and used, 1924 and 1931 Brussels souvenir sheets used, scarce 1929 'L' and crown o/p on 10fr+10fr brown Orval attractive mint never hinged top value marginal inscription example, signed, etc. In fact most of the semi-postal series are here inc. 1928 cathedrals complete mint never hinged, 1929 waterways complete mint never hinged and used, 1930 castles mint and used, 1932 infantrymen mint, sanatorium complete used, 1933 tuberculosis complete used, 1934 crusader complete used, etc. all the way through to the post WWII key value the 1952 40fr+10fr UPU congress issue mint (#B514), continuing with hardly any empty spaces through to the 1990s, with the vast majority of the mint again in never hinged condition from 1940 onwards. There are occasional faults as to be expected on some of the earlier issues. This is one man's collection only missing the few most expensive items and including unusual specialised material. It gets better and better on each viewing, so please turn page for page carefully including the transparencies.
An exciting array of 19th century material ready to be prepared for exhibition, with particular strength in the classic imperfs with well over 400 of the first Condor issues, including much organised by plate such as large panes of the 5cts, invaluable for plating studies, as well as many singles. All denominations present to the 100cts blue including superb used copies with enormous margins, beautiful mint examples including the scarce 1868 5cts violet and 50cts blue both with gum, plus colorful and interesting reference material. There are also pre-philatelic stampless covers with postmarks including Tupisa straight line, 'Paz - franca' in foliated oval, Potosi oval and blue octagonal 'Potosi - franca' eagle cancel. The collection continues with the 1868/69 coat of arms issues including genuine 500cts 9 stars unused and mint (signed) and the very scarce key 11 stars 500cts, a highly presentable unused example, a possible minute closed tear between perfs mentioned for accuracy's sake only, leading on to a fascinating and comprehensive study of the 1894 coat of arms issue written-up on quadrille pages with scarce proof items. This includes a rare unadopted essay on card, Bradbury/Wilkinson trials on thin and thick paper, as well as specimen o/ps set of 7, then the original issues with complete marginal strips of five mint and further 100cts , brown rose sheet marginal mint block of six, leading on to the Paris material and an interesting range of 'used' issues inc the 20cts dark blue block of six imperf between horizontally, as well as many 'E.F.' o/ps of 1899 and much more. This is a great opportunity for the specialist of early Bolivia, with enormous potential. The stamps are accompanied by usefull collateral literature on the condor issues including detailed notes on the characteristics of each plate. A delight to view and describe.
An exciting holding of over 50 postal history items from the stampless period through to the early years of the 20th century, housed in two bulging volumes. The pre-philatelic material includes a range of interesting covers to Chile with the blue 'Correos de la Chimba - Bolivia' steamship handstamps and further local handstamps in blue with 10cts denominations for Antofagasta. Also a good range of town cancels with ovals for La Paz (blue), Cochabamba (red), Oruro (black), scarce Tarija, Oruro again in red ornamented rectangle, Potosi octagonal and Sucre ornamental tablets, as well as large straight line cancels for Potosi (red) and Tupisa (blue), including on cover of 1872 from the Chilean embassy. Another cover of 1854 to Salta has different color straight line cancels for Lamar and Potosi plus green/blue oval advertiser's mark of Cobija (destroyed by earthquake in 1865). The stamped covers and postal stationery begin with the 1880s/'90s coats of arms, including eleven stars 1ct brown on blue card, 2cts blue stationery with additional 1ct rose rouletted tied by perfectly struck segmented cancels 1887 to Panama, then a wonderful May 1894 single usage bisect of the 1893 lithographed 20cts green (#39), tied by black segment postmark with Sucre cds, sent to Potosi. Then follows an excellent series of 1890s coat of arms type postal stationery including attractive combination examples with the 5cts with additional 1887 rouletted 5cts (#26) to Madrid, another 5cts plus 5cts combination using the 1890 perf 5cts blue (#30) to Oruro, followed by the 10cts orange stationery inc. cover with violet and red cancels to London, 10cts orange cover with 5cts blue rouletted tied by oval chevron cancel to Germany from Potosi via Panama, etc. The stationery for the 1894 coat of arms type follows with 10cts brown cover to Belgium via Buenos Aires struck with superb Santa-Cruz cds, plus 5cts and 10cts covers with 1899 Sucre combinations. The early 20th century includes 1901/02 2cts Camacho in block of ten used on cover from Oruro to England, beautiful three color combination on 5cts Campero stationery tied by postal administration cancels in purple, etc. A fantastic array of seldom seen early postal history with some highly unusual items. Please see photoplates, some of these covers would sell easily for many 100s of dollars each and this is a great opportunity to buy an important holding. (Image)
An interesting 'work-in-progress' holding of 100s of stamps, mostly 19th century, from the classics onwards including postal history, postmark studies, bisects, proofs, etc. all assembled in one volume. Better material includes well over a dozen imperf condors on quadrille pages with 5cts pre-printing paper fold, 10cts brown used, 50cts orange with six mint/unused (one signed) and two used with postal and revenue cancels, plus the 100cts green x2 and 100cts pale blue green. Then there are manila stockpages crammed with 19th century issues from the 1860s onwards with many selected for clear or unusual postmarks, among which we note 1878 'arms and the law' 10cts orange bisect in pair with whole, tied on piece by oval 'Potosi - Franca' cancel, 1894 1cts bister scarce postally used with '...hacach...' straight line cancel in blue, etc, etc. Other highlights include the 1893 lithographed 1ct rose imperf pair unused, distinct missing cheek error on 1897 Murillo 5cts green seldom seen, interesting revenues inc. tobacco mint multiple, 'centenario' o/ps in black, orange and silver on 1b purple, etc. Then a group of bisects inc. two of the 1878 10cts and the 20cts green tied on piece, proofs including several different issues of the 1920s printed in black, some with black bar obliterations and much more. We advise a thorough inspection of this, many further discoveries still to be made.
Housed in two lighthouse albums, this mint and used collection comes from the same collector as the excellent Croatia in this auction. It is an in depth study including much material not listed in either Scott or Michel. It is well written up beginning with the definitive November on 1918 Bosnia o/ps a complete series from 3h to 10kr, followed by a page by page study for different denominations including misplaced overprints, inverted overprints, missing numbers in , overprints, cyrillic for latin alphabets and vice versa, , latin for cyrillic alphabets etc. The 3h has for example inverted overprints all signed, the missing '1' in 1918, both alphabets and more. Then the 5h, all kinds of misplaced o/ps some extremely visual, as well as double o/ps and then inverted o/p signed, plus multiples etc. A similar pattern for the 10h carmine, 20h brown, 25h blue, 30h green, 40h orange, 45h brownish red, 50h lilac, the o/ps through to the high values, an extraordinary range of , specialisation. Then the December 1918 2h and 5h military posts again with a wealth of material, inverted and double overprints, followed by the Invalid issues, Michel #A19 and #A20, as well as Michel regular #19 and #20 with many thousands of euro here (for that which is catalogued) with many signatures here often multiple, quite outstanding in its diversity and scarcity. This is followed by the late 1918 and early 1919 newspaper stamps, through to the better November 1919 Michel #27-#29, again with errors and virtually every stamp signed including multiples etc. The second album is devoted to the February and March definitives again, for example the Michel #33-#50, followed by many varieties including multiples of different denominations, a range of perforation studies, , colored o/ps, including material with Marganovic cert etc. Finally, the postage due section again with material seldom seen including diagonal 'franco' overprints, followed by the smaller definitives overprinted 'porto' in both alphabets blocks of four, as well as a few registered postal history items with multiple postage due markings on them, most interesting. You could view this collection for hours and still only scrape the surface, it is that good. An outstanding opportunity for the specialist of Bosnia and ,Herzegovina, collector or dealer.
Collection of the star and 'Demokratska Federativna Jugoslavija' overprints specifically for Bosnia Herzegovina interestingly on Croatia 1941/43 views, 1943 semi-postals and 1944 wounded soldier postal tax issues with the series complete mint never hinged with everything signed at least once, including the 50k on 7k orange with missing 'i' in Jugoslvija error. Then the complete series of twenty again, this time used on a series of special cards printed with red star, Mostar and 1st May 1945, again with signatures of Markinovic next to all the stamps and two of the cards with further examples of the missing 'i' error, etc. A further three of the issues are used together on former fieldpost stationery card, unaddressed, with cyrillic overprint, also signed. Try to find these again! (Image)
A highly recommended collection housed in a substantial Minkus album, with a comprehensive showing starting in 1866 and continuing virtually complete through to the 2000s, with everything in the 19th century used and the 20th century mint throughout. Highlights include 1866/79 and 1876/77 perf and rouletted series complete to the 500r orange Dom Pedros (#53/67), 1878/79 Dom Pedros complete to 1000r (#68/78), 1881 small heads complete (#79/81), large heads with the different types, 1888 700r violet and 1000r dull blue entrance to bay (#97/98), etc. Then first newspapers with both 1889 series complete to 1000r (#P1/P18), followed by extensive specialised Hermes types and surcharges of the 1890s, etc. Then the 20th century with 1906/16s complete to 5000r liberty (#174/88), 1906/10 postage dues complete to 5000r brown (#J28/J40), 1913 Fonseca officials to 50,000r (#O14/O26), 1918/20 liberty heads with and without watermark complete (#200/214), through almost all the watermark permutations of the industry and navigation defins and 'education' high values, as well as first airposts complete surcharges (#C1/C16), 1931 revolution series complete (#342/355), zeppelin surcharges complete (#C26/C30) and practically everything else in the 20th century through to 2005 including souvenir sheets such as the 1940 New York World's Fair sheets of ten (#496a/498a) often missing from collections, also all the watermarks on the 1941/42 type defins including the scarce 1943 500r salmon (#512/529, #541/587), etc, etc. Apart from one or two very insignificant faults on the earlier 19th century, this delightful collection is in pristine condition throughout and most worthwhile.
One-volume collection with around 300 mint and used stamps housed on stockpages and quadrille leaves with write-up, including a particularly interesting section of Eastern Roumelia with enormous potential. The collection starts with the 19th century Bulgaria surcharges on lion types through to the 50s on 1fr black on red, also detailed studies on the 1901 insurrection of independence and 1902 battle of Shipka Pass issues as well as airposts, postage dues, etc. Then the Eastern Roumelia overprints are extensive with more than 100 including the octagonal tablet o/ps, large blue 'R.O.' as well as lions in black, blue, purple, etc. inc. inverted on piece, blue lions on 5pa block of four mint, with genuine items certainly present. An extraordinary range of material, so much of Eastern Roumelia in one lot is in itself unusual and will delight the specialist.
Well over 10,000 stamps, parallel mint and used in 8 large elephant stockbooks, with everything organised chronologically issue by issue from the 19th century to the 1970s. Though the volumes are packed with stamps, the stock is evenly balanced. In the first volume alone there are a few thousand 19th century 'Colons' including multiples! We note 1867s with 1cts orange mint x4 including one with signature, 2cts black mint, as well as more than 20 used of each of the 1cts and 2cts including colored cancels on both issues. Many more mint to be found on subsequent values of the 1867s including 8 mint 20cts greens. Then on to the 1877 rouletted series with mint to 20cts and excellent postmark interest with lots of superb cds as well as blue cancels seen, even more so on the 1878/99 rouletted issues including mint never hinged and used multiples, 10cts yellow shade mint, several 50cts lilac shade used plus an unusual used 50cts violet on pink paper (not listed in Scott). Then the turn of the century surcharges, 1910 Independence Centenary with three complete mint series as well as used complete, 1911s to 10 pesos mint and used, 1912/13 with over a dozen 60cts top value mint, 1915/25 complete mint, etc, through later 20th century comprehensive. The back of the book volumes are very interesting here with material both listed and not listed in Scott, with 1894 acknowledgment of receipt issued and unissued types, postage dues with lots of Valparaiso 19th century issues on straw and on yellow papers, telegraphs 19th and 20th century, early revenues, propaganda issues, occupation issues and what appear to be essays with and without centers, as well as extensive officials and airposts including for example the 1928 10 pesos airpost with blue eagle o/p x2 mint, 1950 50 pesos with several mint, etc, etc. Although completely uncataloged, this will clearly be enormous. An opportunity for the Chilean collector or dealer, with a strong probability of many finds to be made.
