A very interesting range, formed by stripping numerous collections now housed in one substantial bulging stockbook with mint and used. There are plenty of highlights and much postmark potential, beginning with the &lsquo, coat of arms&rsquo,, there are 2 x SG10 mint, the £,1 deep blue and a third example used. Also present with further high values including a £,5 sage green and a £,10 brown SG12 and SG13 both with cds cancels, they look good, you decide. Then the 1892/94 types with many dozens of pence values inc multiple, occasionally chaotically presented yet again huge potential here. Then the , scrolls series of 1896, again many dozens through to the shillings including top values etc. , Please note that there are also glassine envelopes chock- a-block, some of which we have displayed to get an idea how extensive this holding is. The 19th century continues with for example 2 x mint 4/- grey black and vermillion tucked away under a glassine. , Further scrolls of the second series of 1896 by the dozens with values to £,2 (x 10), as well as many other values again occasionally overspilling with glassine envelopes, filled to capacity stuffed to the side with many multiples. Then the Rhodesia overprints, to high values, also with plenty , varieties to explore here, followed by the study of the o/ps issues through to 1909, again by the dozens. Unfortunately there are no doubleheads as this section was sold by the then vendor a few years ago. , However the admiral heads are here by the 100s with a plethora of different dies and values to the £, - you must really spend time on this to appreciate how interesting this is &ndash, there will of course be mixed condition as well as revenue cancels, nevertheless it is overwhelmingly in good condition, with huge potential for varieties present and discoveries to be made. An important original holding, the likes of which are hardly ever available in today&rsquo,s market place, offered intact as received.
An extraordinary accumulation formed by decades of buying, not only through auction but also through a new issue service for the more modern part. Starting off with the 'coat of arms' to the shilling values, material includes admiral heads to 5/-, various side other KGV S Rhodesia to 5/-, KGVI various definitives set again complete to 5/- through to QEII inc S. Rhodesia first defin to £, ,never hinged, followed by Rhodesia and Nyasaland also to £,s. Many hundreds perhaps thousand of booklets present, packed to capacity in 3 boxes with some degree of specialization here, including different control numbers, errors etc. The new issue service also very clean with generally speaking 50 of each of most series often in sheet format, noted 2d S. Rhodesia Matabeleland with constant sheet varieties, as well as various QEII multiples to £, inc pairs, blocks etc, also other errors including dramatic shift of green in 4d emerald defins etc. Somewhat chaotic in presentation in parts, nevertheless a very interesting holding with no doubt many pleasant surprises to be discovered, completely uncataloged but clearly running into five figures when worked on. These booklets alone are very substantial in Gibbons. The more time you spend on the lot, the more to discover, a thoroughly viewing particularly for the Rhodesian specialist.
