1121 c imageLibby Prison, prisoner of war cover, brownish paper envelope out of this prison in Richmond, Va. to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with "M.M. Moore/2nd Lieut./Prisoner of War" endorsement at left, "Old Point Comfort/Va./Nov 10" c.d.s. where the cover crossed the lines from South to North, "Due 6" in circle handstamp, no Confederate postage was necessary on this P.O.W. usage, enclosure date lined "Libby Prison/Feb. 14th/'64" to his mother, as addressed on the cover (the discrepancy in date may indicate is an earlier letter but clearly establishes the prison which is very difficult with Confederate prisons), he notes that he is only allowed to write six lines (so he writes lengthwise on the letter sheet) and states that he expects to remain there the rest of the war, minor edge wear to cover, actually quite nice and fine-very fine; a rare letter from a Union prisoner in this Confederate prison; ex-Bleuler. 1122 ogblc Confederate States of America historic collection in large Elbe album, this collection traces the history of the Confederacy through engravings of its leaders, stamps, covers and documents and unused patriot covers, the stamps are mostly the 10c last issues including a gutter block of 56 (8x7) of #11 plus a gutter pair of #8, includes several interesting covers including a hand carried patriotic cover, an adversity cover made from a page of a book and an 1867 usage of a #11 used from Mississippi and charged postage due when it reached Baltimore, also includes four unused patriotics including Magnus and a very rare CSA patriotic of two views inscribed "Our Homes/Protection", believed to be the only known unused example, also a General Order for the deployment of artillery from the Headquarters, Department of South Carolina and Georgia, corrected and then approved and initialed by General Beauregard, also nine gorgeous engravings of Confederate leaders and generals, overall fine-very fine and a highly desirable collection for the Confederate States collector; ex-Bleuler. 1123 OOc Confederate States of America postal history accumulation of over 80 covers plus some used stamps with various postmarks, facsimiles and three covers where the stamps do not belong, actually a very eclectic accumulation with a wide range of covers starting with some pre-Confederate covers of Alexander Stephens including a free frank signature as member of Congress and even including a couple of post-war covers of Jefferson Davis, one censored while he was under house arrest, there are several during the postmaster provisional marking period, the largest portion of the covers have CSA franking starting with the first issue, we note a couple of covers with #5 including an allover front advertising cover, a #9 on cover and a #13 cover, we also note adversity covers made out of different forms, a few patriotic covers, some soldiers letters, plus a handful of P.O.W. covers in and out of Point Lookout, Maryland and one from Johnson's Island in Ohio, condition is very mixed from faulty to very fine; a very interesting accumulations that bears careful examination by the Confederate collector; ex-Bleuler. 1124 c Confederate memorial collection in two large albums using patriotic materials of the period, includes a handsome group of 45 Charles Magnus lithographed portrait cards showing a large number of the different Confederate officers, mostly generals, the portrait is in black with an ornate magenta border (slightly foxed), also 22 different CSA unused patriotic envelopes plus six related Union patriotics, we also note an attractive 1861 letter written to General H.R. Jackson from Ordinance Officer, G.T. Getty, requesting that he direct all Colonels under his command have their empty ammunition boxes returned to his depot in Monterey, Virginia, also a number of 20th century items relating to Confederate veterans and other collateral, fine-very fine and an interesting collection for the Confederate States of America collector; ex-Bleuler. 1135 ogOc EX15/79 UPSS #EX15/79, Large Columbian Exposition postal card accumulation, consisting of over 150 special cards prepared for the exposition with views printed on 1c Grant postal cards, largely official cards produced by Goldsmith plus a few others, over 125 are mint and are largely in full sets of from two to twelve cards in a set, we note three sets of ten of each of set #2 and #5, two sets of the cut down cards and one with additional 1c Columbian values added for foreign mail (sets #3,4), over 20 used include cards from various sets including thirteen with World's Fair station cancels, four with extra Columbian values for foreign mail plus other interesting usages, mint cards are fresh and attractive with nearly all being fine-very fine or better, the used are a little more mixed, as would be expected, but generally fine-very fine as well with a few exceptions; a nice hoard of these attractive cards that are seldom found any more; ex-Bleuler. 1136 Oc 230-45 #230-45, Columbian Exposition extensive collection of numerous stamps and covers of the Columbian issue and just about everything imaginable relating to the World's Fair in six large albums, includes a complete set of the used stamps with some attractive dollar values, plus a number of lower values with various cancels including five stamps from the 3c-15c values with centrally struck World's Fair Station cancels, we also note some postal entires and special post cards with similar exposition cancels, of particular significance is well over 150 covers and Items of postal stationery, there are values on cover up to the 50c value, numerous illustrated advertising and exposition related covers, postal cards contain some mint and used cards of the normal series but also the set #10 single card series mint and with World's Fair station cancel, plus a mint and used Puck card, postal envelopes are comprehensive mint and used including some with illustrated advertising, express franks of various types, etc., in addition numerous pieces of collateral are spread throughout such as trade cards, an invitation to the dedication ceremonies for the buildings of the exposition, even an illustrated silk handkerchief and much more, condition varies as would be expected for a collection of this size, but a tremendous amount of fine-very fine material is present that will not disappoint the collector that examines this lot; ex-Bleuler. 1137 c 1893 Columbian Exhibition memorabilia a vast assemblage of all kinds of mementos for this World's Fair which caught the attention of everyone, the promoters and the commercial exhibitors pulled out all the stops in producing various artifacts to remember the fair and the products being advertised, a box filled with an array of different items, numerous trade cards and multicolor illustrations, large magazines about the exhibition, numerous fancy folders with illustration of the grounds, even a few small stamp albums of the period relating to the fair, some more unusual things that we note include three different complete decks of playing cards, silk book marks, several medals, a few covers that specifically relate to the Exhibition including World's Fair cancels, and much more, one item that deserves mentioning is a virtually complete large "Worlds Fair Combination Needle and Toilet Pin Case" with literally hundreds of pins and needles from small to extremely large featuring "Cantbendem" pins that can be driven through a one inch board without bending, in all a wonderful selection of collectable items from the Columbian Exhibition that would take years to assemble; ex-Bleuler.
