1867 GRILLED ISSUES continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
101 c 84 image#84, 2c Black, "D" grill, single with natural straight edge at right, tied to circular rate cover to Des Moines, Iowa by "Minneapolis/Min/Mar. 17" (1868) duplex, insurance enclosure, stamp with typical centering being just into the design at top, minor water staining to the cover, fine usage; this rare grill is exceedingly rare on cover, much more so than the modest premium given for an on-cover usage, most "D" grills were not discovered until they were removed from the cover; this is one of the few examples that has a well impressed grill that is easily discernable from the face and therefore remains on the cover; 1988 PSE certificate. (Image) $4,750.00

SOLD for $1,100.00
Will close during Public Auction
102 O 85 image#85, 3c Rose, "D" grill, an extraordinary quality used example of this truly rare and always challenging grilled stamp, possessing far larger margins than typically encountered and being incredibly well centered within them, deep rich color and a strong impression on bright paper, easily identifiable grill impression, wonderfully postmarked with a most unusual fancy geometric cancel, extremely fine; a true condition rarity; 2000 PSE and 2004 PF certificates. (Image) $1,050.00

SOLD for $1,050.00

(Image) $2,200.00

SOLD for $1,400.00
Will close during Public Auction
104 og 86 image#86, 1c Blue, "E" grill, an extraordinary mint example of this very scarce grilled stamp, possessing overall physical characteristics which are largely unheard of on any of the grilled issues, let alone this particularly difficult stamp, featuring an extraordinary overall freshness, with gorgeous bright color and a strong impression on immaculate paper, marvelously well centered amid large margins, pristine full o.g. that has been very lightly hinged, extremely fine; a remarkable condition rarity for the finest collection; 2004 PF certificate. (Image) $3,500.00

SOLD for $2,700.00
Will close during Public Auction
105 og 89 image#89, 10c Green, "E" grill, particularly well centered within large margins, rich luxuriant color in a deep "sage" green shade, strong impression as well, large part o.g. which is a bit redistributed, very fine; a very rare mint stamp that is missing in even the most advanced collections; 1979 and 2002 PF certificates; ex-Lessin. (Image) 5,500.00

SOLD for $1,500.00
Will close during Public Auction
106 Ou 89 image#89, 10c Green, "E" grill, a spectacular used example that could very well be the finest used copy in existence, as this stamp possesses gigantic margins all around and is incredibly well centered within these immense borders, plus its color is deep and rich, while its impression is razor-sharp, light segmented cork cancel, a truly superb stamp; 1992 PF certificate and a 2004 PSE certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $2,750.00 for 98); this is by far the highest graded #89 in the PSE population report; ex-"Connoisseur" Collection, Morris. Will close during Public Auction
107 O 91 image#91, 15c Black, "E" grill, outstanding centering amid large to extra-large margins, strong rich color, lightly cancelled, an extremely fine example of this difficult grill despite a tiny barely perceptible corner perf. crease at bottom right; 2006 PF certificate. (Image) $675.00

SOLD for $350.00

108 nh 95 image#95, 5c Brown, "F" grill, a brilliant "post office" fresh mint example, possessing an overall mint "bloom" that is rarely encountered on stamps of this vintage, with rich luxuriant color and a strong impression, quite well centered, brilliant full o.g. which shows the grill impression perfectly, never hinged, just a trace of slight offset as often found on the small existing population of never hinged examples, very fine and exceedingly choice; few Five Cent "F" Grills exist in such pristine condition, those that do come from a small group of multiples that were found in the past decade and have been broken up to satisfy the demand for premium quality singles, virtually every example from this cache has some trace of slight offset on the reverse; 1992 PF certificate; ex-Lessin.
