447 c S.G. 27 imageS.G. #27, 1938 3a6p Light blue and blue, tied by "Falam/12 Aug 42" datestamp to Shillong, endorsed from "Naylor/D.C. Chin Hills/Falam", backstamped at "Aijal/Lushai Hills/21 Aug 42" and Shillong 28 August slogan receiver, Falam being one of four towns in the Chin Hills still occupied by the British after the rest of Burma had been occupied by the Japanese in May, 1942, a runner post was established in May, 1942 to carry official mail through Japanese occupied territory, between Aijal in the Lushai Hills in India and the four unoccupied towns in the Chin Hills, the service ceased in November, 1943, when the Japanese finally occupied all of the Chin Hills, a list of the 33 covers recorded from this service bearing Burma stamps was published in the spring 1983 edition of the Burma Peacock, only one cover (from Fallam, Sept. 8, 1942) was recorded that was not sent "On His Majesty's Service" and that bore ordinary Burma adhesives rather than "O.H.M.S. or "Service" stamps, the cover offered here is an additional example, very fine; a very rare and interesting item of WWII postal history. 448 c S.G. 25 var. imageS.G. #25 var., 1938 2a6p Claret, with handstamped and typewritten "O.H.M.S." overprints in black and violet, tied to large buff official cover addressed to "The Superintendent/Lushai Hills, Aijal" and tied by Falam datestamp, Falam being one of four towns in the Chin Hills still occupied by the British after the rest of Burma had been occupied by the Japanese in May, 1942, a runner post was established in May, 1942 to carry official mail through Japanese occupied territory, between Aijal in the Lushai Hills in India and the four unoccupied towns in the Chin Hills, the service ceased in November, 1943, when the Japanese finally occupied all of the Chin Hills, Burma "Service" stamps were initially used on mails from these four towns, but when supplies of service stamps ran out ordinary stamps were overprinted "O.H.M.S." by handstamp or typewriter, a list of the 33 covers recorded from this service bearing Burma stamps was published in the spring 1983 edition of the Burma Peacock, nineteen of these covers bore these provisional overprints, only six having both typed and handstamped overprints, very fine and desirable.
