1046   imageUnited States #65, 1861 3c Rose, used on envelope from the Confederacy via Nassau to New Brunswick, Canada and endorsed "Via New York", cancelled at Nassau by "A05" barred oval with, on reverse, matching neat "Bahamas" double arc datestamp on February 13, 1865, the stamp being additionally tied by large "postage not paid" notation in red crayon, nevertheless with no other charges being shown, slight soiling affecting the adhesive and not detracting, another interesting example of the scarce Blockade-run mail, this being infrequently cancelled in transit in Bahamas; 1994 P.F. certificate. 1047 c   imageS.G. #26, 1863-77 4d Rose, few perforation faults, tied by "A05" barred oval to September 12, 1865 envelope to Kingston, with "Bahamas/Sp 12 1865" double-arc datestamp on reverse, carried by the "Corsica" steamship to Havana -as no steamers bound to Jamaica-, then forwarded via St. Thomas with corresponding c.d.s. on back struck on October 13, arriving to destination on the 20th as confirmed by c.d.s. on front, then not being delivered with Italic "Unclaimed" handstamp, "Advertised" albino strike, finally struck by Kingston c.d.s. on March 31, 1866 and returned to Nassau after six months, "4" pence in red crayon probably applied on delivery, upper back flap missing, a very interesting and desirable usage; ex-Morris H. 1048 c   image1867 French Maritime Mail cover from Kingston to Bordeaux, franked by France 1862 80c Carmine, tied by anchor lozenge, with matching "Kingston/16 Juil 67/Paq. Fr. D No 1" octagonal datestamp, Salles 1543, and "Ligne-D/16 Juil 16/Paq. Fr. No 1" c.d.s. of this annexed maritime line, with inverted date and erroneous year, backstamps including "Ligne-B./23 Juil 67/Paq. Fr. No 3" and Bordeaux c.d.s.'s, very slight toning in few perforations, not detracting from this most probably unique combination of postmarks with a French franking; )Maury 24)In June 1865 the "Ligne D annexe" was inaugurated to provide service between St. Thomas and Kingston, being extended to Colon in 1868. 1050 c   image1797 Second British Occupation folded letter to Glasgow, originally sent from Grenada where the sender endorsed this folded letter to be forwarded "Via Martinique", handstamped in transit at Fort Royal with delightful strike of "Martinique" straight line, second type, rated 2s 5d in manuscript, backstamped on receipt, small portion of paper loss at left, still though a very fine example of this very rare postmark, with usages only known from 1795 to 1797 (Jamet 5, Robson Lowe HS2).Martinique was occupied for the first time by the British on March 2, 1762, but the island was returned to France the following year, with no surviving postal material recorded in this period; Martinique was again invaded, during the Napoleonic Wars, on February 21, 1794 and given back to France after the Peace of Amiens in 1802.
