2102 ngbl Hellrigl #12, a imageHellrigl #12, a, 1889-98 2a Violet, later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, complete sheet of 64, setting 9, unused without gum as issued, untrimmed extra-large sheet margins all around showing the full framelines, this setting now contains ten inverted cliches (each marked in petite ms.), lacking position 22 which separates this from all other settings with this combination, in addition a second feature that starts with this setting through setting 12 is the most dramatic plate flaw of the "ragged cliche" in position 4, a total of only about fifteen copies from all settings are known and is one of the great classic rarities, clear violet color on paper that is becoming inferior with natural irregularities, this being one of the last printings of this period, two vert. and three horiz. folds, all between rows, very fine for this extremely rare sheet; this is the only known imperforate sheet known (see the next lot for the only known pin-perforated sheet of this same setting); ex-Haverbeck (Scott #8, a; $3,650.00+; S.G. #11; a; £3,004+). 2103 ngbl Hellrigl #12 var., a var. imageHellrigl #12 var., a var., 1889-98 2a Violet, later printings on native paper of good quality, double pin-perforated, complete sheet of 64, setting 9, unused without gum as issued, a similar sheet to the previous with all of the same defining features including the ten inverted cliches and the very rare "ragged cliche" plate flaw, sheet margins show all the sheet framelines, attractive violet color on fresh thin paper of fairly good quality despite its later period, light vert. and horiz. folds in the center of the sheet, the stamps are remarkably well centered overall within the perforations which are virtually all double though often so close together to be barely perceptible, very fine for this extremely rare sheet; while normally issued imperforate some of the middle to later printings are known perforated such as this; either way this is an exceptionally rare full sheet being one of only two known sheets, the other imperforate (see lot above); ex-Haverbeck (Scott #8, a; $3,650.00+; S.G. #11; a; £3,004+). 2106 ngbl Hellrigl #13 imageHellrigl #13, 1889-98 4a (Light) Green, later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, setting 6, positions 1/37, unused without gum as issued, top left partial inscription irregular block of 29 (lacking bottom right stamp of being a regular block of 6x5), includes major plate flaws of position 2 showing very deep horiz. split through the bottom framelines and position 6 with :"white crown", plus four other plate flaws, large sheet margins showing the sheet framelines along with most of the inscription confirming the setting, the other margins are full to large, lovely pastel color and quite clear impression, one light vert. and two horiz. folds between rows as usual, very fine; a rare large inscription multiple which may be the largest known imperforate block from this setting, the three sheets that are known of this setting are all pin-perforated (Scott #9, $1595.00+; S.G. #12; £1,363+). 2115 ngbl Hellrigl #13b, c imageHellrigl #13b, c, 1889-98 4a Yellow green, later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, complete reconstructed sheet, of 64, setting 4, this sheet was cut into blocks eight blocks of eight (apparently for easier shipment, a practice that is noted on a number of very scarce early sheets), sheet margins are especially large (slight toning at edges) showing no sheet frameline at top but small portions at both sides and bottom of the widely spaced framelines, characteristic of this setting is the joining of the last two words in the inscription which only appears in this setting, position 54 is is the single inverted cliche, Hellrigl notes that this setting is the first to have this inverted cliche and are extremely rare when identified to this setting, the sheet also contains the constant and progressive plate flaws that are found in the 4a value,, color is fresh and rich with a fairly clear impression, very fine; Hellrigl notes that there are only two complete sheets recorded, one of the sheets been reconstructed which he photos on page 163, apparently unaware that the other was reconstructed in the same way, this being the larger and more desirable of the two as it better shows the marginal markings and their position; a lovely exhibition piece (Scott #9; a; $3,710.00+; S.G. #12, a; £3,214+). 2116 ngbl Hellrigl #13b, c imageHellrigl #13b, c, 1889-98 4a (Bright) yellow green, later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, complete sheet, of 64, setting 5, a lovely and very important sheet showing full sheet margins that show the sheet framelines now on all four sides including the top plus the last two words have been separated again, the spacing and alignment of the inscription in relation to the stamps is different than any other setting, position 54 shows the inverted cliche and given the rarity of identifiable multiples of this setting it is certainly as rare, if not more so, than setting 4 which Hellrigl specifically mentions, the color is an intense bright yellow green and has a very clear impression that show the constant and progressive plate flaws well, wonderfully well preserved on fresh paper, usual light horiz. and two vert. folds usually between rows, one affects the third vert. row, very fine; a unique sheet of the greatest importance as this sole example establishes clearly all the features of this setting and is crucial to identifying any other marginal multiples from this setting of which there are very few known; one of the most important items of Nepalese philately; ex-Garratt-Adams (Scott #9; a; $3,710.00+; S.G. #12, a; £3,214+). 2118 ngbl Hellrigl #11/13d Hellrigl #11/13b, 1889-98 1a-4a Later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, mint study collection of 183 in singles and pairs plus some larger multiples, unused without gum as issued, the 1a value has over 80 singles plus eight tete-beche pairs including two blocks of six and eight containing two tete-beche pairs each, there are 30 2a singles plus a tete-beche pair, and the 4a has over 70 singles plus three blocks of four including one with the inverted cliche and a block of six, each value includes a ranges of shades and quality of impressions that are found in this period, there are also plate flaws identified for each value, some major, virtually all have four nice margins including some sheet margin singles, one 4a Yellow green single has a partial inscription of setting 8, a few faults are to be expected but the vast majority are fine-very fine or better; accompanied by nine Hellrigl certificates (Scott #7/9a; $9,865.00+; S.G. #10/12a; £8,513+). 2119 ngbl Hellrigl #15, a imageHellrigl #15, a, 1898-1901 1a (Pale) greenish blue on native paper of poor quality , imperforate, complete sheet of 64, unused without gum as issued, this sheet lacks the top inscription having been trimmed leaving balanced ample margins all around showing tracing of the sheet framelines at sides, however the setting is easily told by the five inverted cliches in positions 13, 23, 51, 61 and 64, this combination is found only in this setting, scarcer blue green color on fresh paper with a fairly clear impression, includes the numerous plate flaws occurring in this value including the recut cliche inverted in position 64, folded once vertically and horizontally between rows in the center of the sheet, very fine and extremely rare asthis is the only known unique sheet from this setting ex-Couvreur (Scott #13a, c; $5,500.00+; S.G. #14, a; £5,500+).
