2271 c Scott #O15 image1960 1R Red lilac with black "Service" overprint in Devanagan characters, tied to reverse of official cover by Gorkha postmark plus another strike on the front, to Kathmandu where backstamped, while the dates are difficult to read, the cancel tying the stamp is clear enough to be the corresponding date of 1961-62, very fine; this stamp was little used in the period of issuance and the remainders were made available for official and regular mail in 1983 when the remainders were place on sale to the public, catalog values represent this late release and usage; official covers legitimately used in the 1961-63 period are extremely rare also accompanied by another single tied to dated piece; 1985 Hellrigl certificate certifying the proper usage on cover (S.G. #O146). 2272 c   1884-1954 British-Indian Post Office collection of 89 covers starting with an 1884 Postal entire with "D" in Bars cancel (Hellrigl type B13), then an 1888 Postal entire to Calcutta with small "Nepal/AU 31 81" c.d.s. (Hellrigl type B26), several late 19th century covers with Nepal squared circle postmarks (Hellrigl type B14), two are registered with h.s. "Registered" markings (Hellrigl type B49), the rest are in the Kings Edward VII, George V. and VI periods with a couple in the Queen Elizabeth period, there are a variety of usages including many registered covers, includes a number of different registration labels including a very rare black Hellrigl type 1a handstamped registration label, lots of different markings are found including postage due handstamp markings and Kathmandu exchange markings, plus British Embassy and British Legation markings and labels, all commercial legitimate mail so condition varies but many are fine to very fine; an interesting postal history lot showing how foreign mail was handled in Nepal, examine. 2276   Nepal literature and reference lot contained in large box, includes some of the important handbooks of this complicated area of philately that fansinates the specialist collector, includes a nice clean copy of The Classic Stamps of Nepal, 1984, by Wolfgang Hellrigl and Frank Vignola, plus a second copy with the collectors notes, The Native Postmarks of Nepal, 1978, by Wolfgang Hellrigl and Colin Hepper, Nepal Postal History, 1991, by Wolfgang Hellrigl and other handbooks such as Nepal Postal Stationery, 1993, by Axel Werner and Dick van der Wateren, we note a couple of bound copies of major collections including "Postal History Collection of the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814-16, number 19 o0f 20 numbered copies, plus a bound copy of the pages of the Collection of Nepal by Frank Vignola, there are several auction catalogs containing major collections of Nepal, a stack of "Postal Himal" Journal with issues from the 1980's to present, along with clippings and articles on Nepal, finally there are four forgery sheets of Nepal including two fantasy sheets of 42 of ½a Black with dividing lines between all the stamps, also a 2a Violet sheet of 64, setting 6, and a ½a Orange vermilion sheet of 64, setting 6, all on native paper, the last two probably done photographically, examine.
