486 og 3 image#3, 1851 12d Black on laid paper, a most presentable appearing mint example of this world-class rarity, clear to large margins all around, strong color and sharp impression, possessing original gum with small h.r., tear and repair in the top right corner resulting in a slight touchup of the right frame line at top, very fine appearance; a total of 51,000 stamps (255 sheets each of 200 subjects) were issued, however, the stamp proved to be quite unpopular with the public due to its limited usage for specific postal rates to distant destinations, hence it saw limited distribution; only a mere 1,450 stamps were ever sold in over three and a half years of use and all remaining stamps were destroyed on May 1, 1857; an affordable example of this rarity; 1930 RPS certificate; ex-Senator Ackerman (Unitrade C$160.000.00 for fine with original gum).
