German Area
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
781 og/nhObl   German area extensive and valuable mint collection, housed in five large Scott albums, this collection is very broad in its scope containing at least some of the issues of the many areas that are found in German area philately, furthermore it is not loaded with faulty dubious items that are found in so many collections, items that would be questioned are often signed by German experts, throughout we note modest amounts of such areas as German states, colonies and offices abroad, plebiscite territories, occupation issues of other countries in WWII and allied occupation issues of Germany, Germany proper is very extensive from the 1872 empire through 2002 Federal Republic, we note eighteen very presentable Large Shields including even a couple of never hinged, also later 19th century with a nice 25pf Red Brown (#33) and 5M Slate and carmine retouched in white only (#65e), many later issues as well which are virtually complete including 1951-52 Post Horns cplt. and later definitive issues, semi-postals lack very few of being complete including a nice OSTROPA souvenir sheet, air posts have all the Zeppelin issues cplt. with two sets of the the South America Flight set, Berlin is collected much the same as Germany with Black and Red overprints complete, all signed by appropriate experts, plus other better early postal and semi-postal sets and singles including the Currency Devaluation souvenir sheet, German Democratic Republic is virtually complete for all issues, one other area that deserves mentioning is Saar with nearly all the better semi-postals including both never hinged Flood Relief souvenir sheets, condition is quite uniform and clean, all with o.g. with only the rare exception, never hinged generally starts in earnest in the mid 1950s but many earlier sets and singles will be found to be interspersed, overall fine to very fine and nice collection to build upon; well worth examining. Est. $4,000-5,000

782 O   German area used collection of hundreds of different in large Minkus album, the largest portion of the value is found in Germany proper and Berlin but also includes a modest amount of German states, plebiscite territories, offices and colonies and a few WWI and WWII occupation issues, one particularly strong section is a very presentable collection of the first Small and Large Shield issues, these are complete used including the extra scarcer shades less only the 18Kr Large Shield and condition is overall quite nice, also includes other 19th century, strength in the 20th century is in better singles and sets of the early Federal Republic, Berlin has some excellent value in the early issues including 29 different Black and Red "Berlin" overprints, which lack only a few of being complete, better items include 3M and 5M Black overprints and a 2M Red overprint, all 29 stamps are signed by Schlegel BPP, Berlin also has other early sets and singles of both the postal issues and semi-postals including the 1949 UPU set complete, completeness is spotty with some areas strong and others sparse but examination will reveal numerous better items, condition varies but the vast majority are fine-very fine.
