1744 TCc/P   Image1923-24 First King Fouad Issue, trial colors and proofs of the 5m Orange brown denomination in blocks of four on watermarked and gummed paper, includes trial color block of watermark pointing up (Nile Post #D95ctd), bottom sheet-margin block of watermark pointing down (#D95ctd) and top sheet-margin proof block of watermark pointing right (#D95k), the latter with minor toning in selvage, extremely fine. 1745 nh 96 var. Image#96 var., 1923-24 5m Orange brown, experimental "Cancelled" coil overprint in a strip of six, some blunted perforations along the left side which could have very well come from the experiment itself, o.g., n.h., fine (Nile Post #D95o).

These stamps were produced as an experiment to be issued within coil vending machines. Printed in rolls of 500, four were printed vertically while one was printed horizontally. Ultimately, the experiment was deemed a failure and stamps were supposed to have been burned but began coming onto the market during the 1980's. (Image)

Hagopian" handstamp with his signature below, very fine; an incredibly scarce first day of issue cancel on one of Egypt's most popular early commemorative issues (Nile Post #C17-20; $1,750.00+); cataloged as used singles.
