Note: Prior to 1897, external mail from Uganda was not stamped locally. Letters were carried by runner to Mombasa where the appropriate BEA stamps were added. The early Uganda missionaries identified their mail by putting their initials in the bottom left hand corner. The costs were then debited to the sender's account.(Image 1) (Image 2)
