60231   image1855 (Oct 4) Wreck cover from Liverpool to Victoria, endorsed "per Shomberg" (sic) with Embossed 1s green, good to large margins (11mm scissor-cut at lower-right just intrudes on the design), tied by superb Liverpool spoon duplex, "1d" accountancy hs due to Victoria, reverse with Victoria Ship Letter Free arrival in red, carried per Black Ball Line "Schomberg" on her maiden voyage which ran aground off Cape Otway on 27.12.1855, with the passengers and mail transferred to "Queen", which arrived Melbourne 28.12.1855, the finest and most attractive of only five covers recorded from this famous wreck, #1 in Brian Peace's Census & illustrated p.62, ex JRW Purves and Brian Peace.(Image 1) (Image 2)
