6534 imagePeriod of invalidity 1863 (March 3): Lettersheet from Milano to Cremona, bearing 1863 Tipo Sardegna 15 c. in the rare shade 'celeste latteo', a fine and fresh adhesive with large margins all round, tied by clear "MILANO 3 MAR. 63" cds with the year slug inverted, a clear information strike alongside. Reverse with CREMONA cds of the next day. An appealing item full of postal history, in this case the cover was no more taxed. Cert. Zanaria (1999) Sassone = € 4'250 for the rare shade.rnNote: This issue was first valid only for two months until the end of February, but at the beginning of March it was decided to prolong its period of use until end of 1863. One can find letters despatched on March 2/3, 1863 which had been first taxed with double the deficieny, then detaxed. After March 3, the stamp could be used without problem. Reverse with Vernia transit cds. A late and attractive usage of this adhesive in its last month. Signed A. DienarnNote: Still valid, this issue was no more sold at the post offices after issuing the London De La Rue definitives on December 1st, 1863. Reverse with Milano transit, Baden railway ambulant and AMSTERDAM arrival (Sept 23) cds's. Cover with some wrinkles, nevertheless an exceptional usage and an elusive adhesive's combination, the item correctly franked for a printed matter up to 40 gram to the Netherlands. Signed A. 6541 image1863 (Dec 26): Envelope from Como to Rome, bearing 1863 DLR 5 c. 'verde grigio' and 15 c. 'celeste', two fresh and fine examples, cancelled by light COMO despatch cds in black with information strike and "P.F." handstamp alongside. Reverse with Milano & Firenze transit as well as ROMA arrival (Dec 29) cds's. Correct franking paying the rate until the Papal border, the receiver had to pay '6' (bajocchi) for the rest of the journey. The usage of the PF handstamp is rarely seen on these part paid letters to the Papal States, from the first month of the DLR adhesives. Signed Zanaria; cert. Serra (2005). 6546 image1865 (Oct 3): Double rate envelope from Pavia to Milano, bearing a mixed franking of 1863 DLR 15 c. celeste and 1865 (Jan) 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 on 15 c. blue in Type I, two fresh and fine adhesives, tied by fair PAVIA despatch cds, an information strike alongside. Reverse with indistinct arrival cds and distribution handstamps. A unique 'gemelli' combination, where the DLR adhesive was counted like a non-overprinted 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 centesimi adhesive, thus it was obliterated and the cover not taxed. A gem full of attractiveness for a most advanced collection of the early kingdom. Signed E. Diena & Sorani; certs. 6547 imageThird war of Independence 1866 (Aug 20): Fieldpost envelope, despatched at the military headquarters and sent to Chambêry, forwarded to Saint-Jean-d'Angêly, bearing 1863 DLR printing 40 c. rose-carmine, a fresh and fine single example, tied by crisp 'XXIX' numeral obliterator with "POSTA MILre ITAL. / QUARTIER GENERALE VII CORPO 20 AGO. 66" despatch cds alongside. Obverse struck in addition by "P.D." handstamp in back and French entry (Aug 23) cds in red. Reverse with CHAMBÉRY arrival and forwarding (Aug 24) cds's. Part of backflap missing, nevertheless a most interesting Fieldpost item, signed Calves; cert. E. Diena (1981).rnNote: The letter was written by Alexandre Cêsar Paul Marie d'Oncieu de la Bâtie (1838-1875), an officer of Savoyan roots who served the king of Sardinia. 'rosa carminio' (2) in mixed franking with 1866 Torino printing 30 c. 'bruno castano' (3) and 60 c. 'lilla chiaro' (2), tied by light '1317' numeral obliterator with matching "MAMMOLA-GERACE despatch cds, "P.D." and framed RACCOMANDATO handstamps, all in black alongside. A fresh and fine mixed franking of both prints, the letter rate from Italy to the North German Postal Union, valid between 1869 and 1873 was 40 c. plus 40 c. registration fee. Signed A. 6549 image1871 (Feb 7): Double rate Insured Envelope from Rieti to Bologna, endorsed "Valore dichiarato Lire 1'700", bearing a rare franking of the 1863 DLR 2 l. light scarlet in combination with 40 c. carmine, two fresh and fine examples in intense shades, tied by clear numeral '133' grill obliterator with "RIETI UMBRIA" despatch cds and ASSICURATO handstamp, both in black alongside. Reverse with ambulant cds and octagonal BOLOGNA arrival (Feb 8) datestamp. Light vertical file fold well away from the franking, nevertheless an interesting and correct franking. Cert. E. Diena (1986) Sassone = € 20'000+.rnNote: A commercial cover paying exactly the rate with twice 20 c. for the postage, 30 c. registration fee and 10 c. for an insured value of 100 lire or parts thereof, in this case 170 centesimi which make in total 240 centesimi. Reverse with Udine and Görz transit cds's of the same day. Cover with minor wear and tear, but a correct franking of utmost rarity, in addition an extremely rare value letter sent abroad. Signed A.
