9983 Ansichtskarte (Picture postcard) image1908, postcard mailed unfranked from Cologne/Germany to Bangkok, struck with "Cöln" despatch c.d.s. (June 6) and framed 'T' marking in black, on arrival the card was cancelled by "Bangkok" datestamps (four different, three are in blue) and "Krungkao" c.d.s. dated between July 7-16. The addressee not found and the card struck by "INCONNU / UNKNOWN" and "RETOUR / RETURNED" handstamps in blue. Cologne re-arrival c.d.s. in blue (Nov 5) having been held for the required month in Bangkok. Scarce and attractive!

The enclosed letter from Cairo is endorsed 'N.P.T12.3.44' indicating when the letter was received at Non Pladuk by Driver Wes Hill. Harris had been sent from Java to Burma via Singapore on 14th October 42 originally at Thanbyuzayat, Harris was moved to 105 Kilo Camp and Tamarkan Camp. Although the cover is addressed to Harris in Burma he had already been transferred to help on the railway, but P.O.W. Mail in to Burma from Australia is scarce. Stampless military mail envelope addressed to the 'General Commandant Superior of the Army's, S.P. 50630, Saigon' cancelled by 'Escale/Francaise/Bangkok' with 'Croix de Lorraine' and arrival 'Poste Aux Armees/405' cds on reverse. Unique item from the French/International excursion in Siam January 1947. As the result of the French-Siamese War 23/Nov/1940 until 22/Jan/1941 France succeeded territories in North-West Cambodia and West of the Mekong in Laos to Siam. After the liberation of French Indo-China by French and Indo-Chinese Troops and with international pressure Siam voluntarily relinquished the territories annexed to them in 1941. The region around Bassac (Laos) was returned on 15/4/1946. As a result of the unrest in the region an alliance between Ho-Chi-Minh (Communist China) and the King of Laos to reclaim lands in Northern Laos led to strong tension in Siam.
