Christoph Gärtner Philatelic Sale - 1905

Special Auction - The Peter Zgnoc Collection - May 20, 2019

Special Auction Collection Peter Zgonc – German Occupations WWI and Voting Areas

It is a great pleasure and honour for me to present you with this catalogue outstanding objects of the German Occupation issues during World War I, the German Voting areas, Gdansk and the Memel area.

The auction starts with the legendary overprint fault ”2 F. 50 Cent on 1 Mark red8 for Belgium. One sheet with 20 stamps was overprinted unrecognized and used in Charleroi as normal parcel franking, whereas the regular overprint for this value was on 2 Mark dark blue. Because the place of usage this adhesive is also called the ”Charleroi Stamp8. Only 13 of the issued 20 copies are known so far.

Upper Silesia is represented by several Germania pairs of which only one stamp bears the blue hand stamp overprint, and the unique sheet with all issues of the red overprint whereby the 50 Pfg. and 1 Mark values are the only known copies.

The highest value of the 1st Gdansk issue is represented by four specialities: a mint copy with 26:17 perforation holes, the so-called ”Peace Print8, an unused copy with upside-down frame as well as the two known copies with inverted overprint. Also worth mentioning are the Germania stamps with the overprint used for postal stationeries, of which a used copy and one on a postcard form are offered.

You will not only find these extraordinary items on the following pages, but also many other treasures, most of them were issued in very small numbers – and all in excellent condition!

This offer is truly unique and cannot be repeated, please take the chance of this opportunity.
