1868 LETTER FROM HMS FLORA - ASCENSION ISLAND: A letter dated 16 Sep. 68 written on board HMS Flora while based at Ascension in the process of salvaging a wreck, probably the MV Bremensis. The letter was probably sent on another naval vessel and was posted in London. EL with neatly repaired tear on opening franked 6d lilac posted "LOMBARD ST/OC 10 68" to Wurtemburg via Calais. An interesting long chatty letter, "I had about a fortnight spree up the Green Mountain". Mentions HMS Vestal,she was also in Ascension at this time. A part transcript of the letter is included.
