BLACK OVERPRINT: 'O.A.' on De La Rue V/Crown Wmk (not confirmed by us) Perf 10 2d deep red-orange, tied by GPO cds of MR27/72 to partly-printed lettersheet headed 'OFFICIAL ASSIGNEE'S OFFICE, ADELAIDE' used locally, some splitting along the folds & repaired internally with archival tape, significant spotting, pencil notations on the outer flap are related to administration of an estate. The stamp - if correctly identified - is rated RRR. Number 1 in Anthony Presgrave's Census of only four 'O.A.' covers.
In 1872, Dalwood was a creditor of the bankrupt John Whitington. In various South Australian Directories, WT Dalwood is listed as an "Agent" between 1875 & 1884. In 1887, he was shown as "Land & Commission Agent". In an unrelated matter, in 1877 he was awarded £2500 against the Commissioner for Public Works.
