BLACK OVERPRINT: 'H.' on De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Perf 10, Gambierton cds of FE14/73. Rated R. The superb 'Besancon' example sold for SFr205. [Date range -.11.1872 to 24.3.1874]
BLACK OVERPRINT: 'H.' on Irregular Compound Perf 11½-12½x11½-12½x10x11½-12½ 4d deep purple, extensive thinning but of fine facial appearance, light indistinct cds. Unlisted by Ron Butler and the only recorded example so it should be rated RRRRRR. [At page 99, Ron Butler states "Only local correspondence was envisaged and there was only one denomination [the 2d]". However, he provides no authority for either assertion. In any event, 4d was for double-rate domestic letters, so allocation of 4d stamps should not be surprising]
