1935 Silver Jubilee 2 1/2d PRUSSIAN BLUE error of colour, mint never hinged, slightly toned gum as can be found on several examples of this rare and iconic item of British Philately, cert. RPS (SG £15'000)
The printers, Harrison & Son, printed a few sheets in Prussian Blue. They realised their mistake and quickly destroyed the erroneous sheets, apart for 6 sheets sent to the Post Office Storage centre. The superintendent was asked to destroy the six sheets apart from a block of four to be retained for reference purposes. However, a further mistake was made and only two sheets were destroyed and four were inadvertently placed with the correct colour sheets by a busy worker. Three of these sheets landed at the Edmonton Post Office in North London. The fourth sheet was sent to an unknown post office. A certain amount are known to have been used of which some on magazines to Australia. The 2 1/2d Prussian blue remains one to this day of the most famous and rarest stamps of Great Britain(Image 1)(Image 2)(Image 3)
