image 1876-1904 De La Rue Crown SA (Narrow) Watermark 2d orange-red Perf 10 as SG 168 but Mixed Perforations with additional row of Perf 11½ at top, light squared circle cancel, a few uneven perfs. Unlisted in Gibbons and absent from the Gary Diffen sale of 29.4.2020. The stamp was originally Perf 10 all around with the top perforations cutting through the design at the Queen's crown creating a 'dwarf' stamp; the additional row of Perf 11½ was applied to 'rescue' the stamp's original size, but was misplaced upwards to include a part of the stamp above; it is quite remarkable that the stamp was separated in such a way as to retain both lines of perforations, and likely that others from the same row were not so lucky as to survive intact.

image OFFICIALS - OVERPRINTED 'O.S.': Thick 'O.S.' Perf 11½-12½ '3-PENCE' in Black on 4d ultramarine with No Stop after 'O.S ' SG O7a, concealed tears at U/L & the base and a small thin, three strikes of the GPO cds over the 'O.S.' Overprint, Cat £4500. Very rare: believed that only two examples are recorded. RPSofV Certificate (2021). SG O7 is a very rare stamp absent from major collections including those of Julian Beresford, John Griffiths, Sir Gawaine Baillie, Ron Butler, William Frazer, Peter Jaffé, Harry Lower and Michael Blake. Rev James Mursell (1964) had two that were offered in a mixed lot, neither of them being illustrated but this is believed to be one of those stamps. Interestingly, Gary Diffen's example with No Stop after 'S ' SG O7a exhibits the same 'fuzzy' characteristics of the 'O.S.' overprint as the current stamp: his sold at auction in May 2020 for £2520. A similar example of SG O7 - believed to be the other Mursell stamp & with RPSofV Certificate - sold at our auction of 31.8.2020 for $4552]
