349 PP 8P image8P: Half-Penny PLATE PROOF complete SHEET OF 100 on India on card in colour of issue (rose), showing four 'Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York' IMPRINTS - one each in top and bottom margins at right and two in right margin at top and bottom (originally this sheet was produced as a plate of 120 so it would sell for an even 5/-, but was later reduced to a 100 subject plate to conform with the sheet-size of the other Pence issues, thus the imprints from the original left side of the sheet are not present, along with the vertical left block of 20 stamps, all of which had been cut away from the original engraved plate), showing strong RE-ENTRIES (actually fresh entries) at positions 60, 70 and 84 plus the MAJOR RE-ENTRY at position 100. The sheet also exhibits a couple of dozen minor blemishes, scribing lines, plate cracks, etc as well as a strong ENGRAVER'S PLATE SCRATCH at positions 81 to 82 (these were all burnished off the plate before production), a UNIQUE SHOWPIECE and a very fine EXHIBITION ITEM. MONTREAL & OTTAWA' IMPRINTS on all four sides along with SIX CENTS COUNTER, (Plate No.) 'A' and reversed letter'R' (repaired) in top margin, showing several RE-ENTRIES throughout the sheet and the MAJOR RE-ENTRY at position 24, there are several pencil notations in margin only and the sheet has full original gum, but has been re-inforced/re-joined at a few spots on selvedge as well as between fifth and sixth vertical stamp columns, eight stamps between the fourth and fifth horizontal rows and four others, all 78 other stamps are NEVER HINGED (about a dozen of these are very fine), altogether an illustrious 'one-of-a-kind display item (a photograph of this sheet was used for the background of the Capex '78 catalogue).
