Lot No: 159

Cat No: 1893S

image 1893-S ANACS VF30 Details Cleaned. Grey color on surfaces that maintain an original appearance. The diagnostic die scratch on the T in LIBERTY is plainly evident. The 1893-S is a scarce coin in any grade - prohibitively so in AU or higher. The undisputed king of the Morgan $1 series, the original mintage was only 100,000 the overwhelming majority of which entered circulation as silver dollars were used in daily commerce on the west coast during the time of this coin's striking. This offering presents an opportunity for the Morgan silver dollar specialist to acquire the series key in nice mid-grade condition. (Image)

Sale No: 14
Lot No: 160
Symbol:
Cat No: 1894

image 1894 NGC XF Detail Cleaned. The coin is a medium-grey color and there is no evidence of cleaning in this cataloger's opinion. It is a complete mystery why this coin did not straight-grade. The 1894 Morgan Dollar is a scarce coin that gets consistently overlooked by the 1893-S which runs about 8x the price. But the mintage of the 1894 is only 110,000 which is a mere 10,000 more than the 1893-S. It could be argued that they are about equal in overall scarcity. (Image)
