A UNIQUE COMPLETE SET OF THE 1861 BERGEDORF TRANSFER BLOCK TRIAL COLORS.
In 1858, Shanahan's Auction House in Dublin, Ireland sold this remarkable set to Albin Schwärzler of Bergedorf. The current owner has researched other examples of these blocks in other collections, auction catalogs and other sources for over thirty five years and has concluded that only four complete sets were ever printed. Many of the other blocks have been cut up to facilitate their sale so that apart from those offered here, it is no longer possible, according to the owner's research, to assemble a second complete set.
