1870 (Nov. 7) Paris to United States. Folded Gazette des Absents No. 5 to San Francisco, postmarked "Paris, 7 Nov. 70" double circle, cover sent via London & New York with red London transit and New York "2 Cents" credit handstamp, original adhesives (top right & bottom left) tied by London transit and San Francisco arrival postmarks, the stamps were then removed as the recipient could not be found and scarce San Francisco "Advertised 1" straight line applied where the stamp at the top right had been originally placed, interesting Red Cross label used to seal cover and "San Francisco Advertised, Dec. 14" cds applied on reverse, name of recipient crossed out, Very Fine, ex-Steinway.
