Cat No: Collection

image 1890s/1990s, massive lifetime mint and used collection, with many thousands of stamps in eight albums or binders, hinged or black-mounted (these sometimes never hinged, especially from the 1970s onwards) to album pages or in stock pages. The owner was passionate about this area and obviously took great care to fill the album pages to an impressive level of completion, with attention to appearance and not forgetting back of the book including Semi-Postals, Air Post, Postage Due and Officials. Some of the colonies include Cameroon (c.v. $1,695), Chad (c.v. $1,457), Diego Suarez (c.v. $572), French Guinea (c.v. $4,019), French India (c.v. $2,083), Morocco (c.v. $1,348), Oceania, and Sudan (c.v. $571). The collection continues with Madagascar/Malagasy Republic (c.v. $1,458), Mauritania (c.v. $1,183), Indo-China (c.v. $1,334), Martinique (c.v. $1,602), New Caledonia (c.v. $4,362), New Hebrides (c.v. $913), Grand Comoros (c.v. $482), Guadeloupe (c.v. $828), Ste. Marie De Madagascar (c.v. $120) and Guinea (c.v. $1,168). Also well-represented are St.. Pierre et Miquelon (c.v. $6,386), Somali Coast, Tunisia and Wallis & Futuna Islands, among many more. French Colonies stamps themselves are also included (c.v. $1,462). The collection is well-organized and documented with the owner's inventory and recent Scott catalogue values shown on a thick sheaf of lists included with the lot and there is nearly no duplication. We note tobacco smoke smell and some faults on the early stamps as might be expected, otherwise fine to very fine. See our image gallery of 94 photos. (Image)
