Morris at St-John's describing a case where $400 was stolen from the Wesleyan Church (stamp removed), also an 1886 cover and letter from Attorney J. Davis at St-John's describing the sale of confiscated property to pay court fines (stamp removed), an 1887 OHMS cover with letter from Patrick Murphy at Catalinas and addressed to the Sheriff describing hardships preventing him from paying his court fines (return address removed), and finely an 1890 OHMS cover with letter from Catalinas to the Sheriff with a list of property seized to cover court fines (return address removed), an interesting correspondence with a very conservative listed retail value of $350, easily worth $3000 if some idiot had not removed the stamps and return addresses, these should be restored for historic purposes, as-is F-VF est ($100+ US) (Image) C$150+

176 c image1837 PONY EXPRESS TRIPLE RATE, SFL from New-Orleans JAN10-1837 to New-York with manuscript receiver JAN 20th, routing via Gulf Packet to Mobile-Alabama + Pony Express to Philadelphia + train to New-York, a 3 sheet content requiring a triple rate $2.25 fee (3 x $75¢ per sheet), this was a huge amount in 1837 but getting the rapidly fluctuating Cotton Crop information 1-2 weeks ahead of the usual ship mail was critical, a great 10 day delivery for a 1500 mile trip, this service pre-dated the 1860-1861 Western Pony Express by 25 years and covers are at least as scarce as the 1860 despatches, a rare triple rate sleeved and priced 20 years ago at $500, VF est ($150+ US) (Image) C$200+
