317 og ImageCANADA, 1851, 6p Slate Violet, Laid Paper (2; SG 2). Large part original gum, four large to ample margins including a part of sheet margin at right, rich color and outstanding proof-like impression on bright fresh paper which displays the distinctive laid lines exceptionally well, just the slightest trace of an inconsequential paper indentation at center

EXTREMELY FINE. A MAGNIFICENT ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 6-PENCE ON LAID PAPER. LIKELY THE FINEST EXAMPLE IN EXISTENCE.

The 1851 6p Prince Albert issue on laid paper is one of Canada's rarest and most difficult stamps to obtain in unused condition. Very few unused examples exist, and even fewer have any portion of original gum. Completely sound unused examples are of even greater rarity. In fact, a thorough review of past famous name sales of important Canadian stamps reveals no other example that competes with this remarkable stamp.

Ex Chapin and Gross. With 1977 and 2009 P.F. certificates (only the latter mentions tiny paper indentation) and clear 2011 Greene Foundation certificate. Scott $40,000.00. SG £50,000. Unitrade C$120,000.00. (Image)
