Lot Sym. Lot Description
2234   ImageJ. E. Schwartz & Co., 1c Lake, Pink Paper (RS215c). Large to huge margins all around, rich color and highly detailed impression

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. QUITE LIKELY THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE OF THIS SCARCE STAMP.

We have sold four since keeping computerized records. None have margins even close to the size of those on the stamp offered here. The Aldrich census records 26.

2235   ImageSeabury & Johnson, 1c Lake, USIR Watermark, Perforated (RS218d). With usual penstroke crossing out "Porous" at right, remarkably well-centered, several thins (a few are covered)

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. BY FAR THE BEST CENTERED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE ONE-CENT LAKE SEABURY & JOHNSON ISSUE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

Every copy we have sold has the perfs at least touching the design and often well into the design. We are not aware of any equal to this stamp's striking appearance. Seventeen are recorded in the Aldrich census.

2237   ImageWilliam Swaim, 8c Orange, Silk Paper, Imperforate (RS234b). Margins range from just touching at right to huge at left, vibrant color, small faults as usual

VERY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 8-CENT WILLIAM SWAIM ISSUE ON SILK PAPER.

The Aldrich book notes only nine examples of this issue on silk paper, including a rejoined pair from the Joyce sale. Virtually all have faults. The example offered here, with its choice appearance, compares favorably to the other known copies.

2238   ImageWilliam Swaim, 8c Orange, USIR Watermark, Die Cut (RS234d). Large margins including huge sheet margin at top showing complete National Bank Note Co. imprint, striking vibrant color, the only flaws are two light vertical creases

EXTREMELY FINE. A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THE SCARCE WILLIAM SWAIM 8-CENT ORANGE WATERMARKED IMPERFORATE ISSUE.

The only copy we can locate that can be considered comparable to this stamp is the example we offered in Sale 1212 -- a sound example with large margins -- though it could be argued this "World Traveler" copy is more desirable due to the imprint.

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE RARE GEORGE TALCOTT 4-CENT ON PINK PAPER. ONLY SIX ARE RECORDED.

At least four of the six copies recorded in the Aldrich book are faulty. This is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records, and has far better centering than the two others we were able to locate in our digital records.
