218   Image5c Brown (76). Rich color, cancelled by full clear strike of Union Soldier's Head fancy cancel of New York City (Skinner-Eno PH-F 73), centered slightly to right, Very Fine strike of this rare fancy cancel, the creation and use of this cancel in the Spring of 1866 coincided with the return of soldiers from the Civil War, it is known on at least one domestic cover, but apparently the cancelling device migrated to the foreign-mail exchange office, where it was used to cancel stamps on mail to foreign countries, as such it is most often found on 24c and 30c 1861 Issues, this is the only one on the 5c we have offered since keeping computerized records, a true rarity, ex Saadi, with 1997 and 2014 P.F. certificates (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A WONDERFUL JUMBO-MARGINED EXAMPLE OF THE 1866 15-CENT LINCOLN, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY THE P.F. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT DENOMINATIONS TO OBTAIN WITH SUCH WIDE MARGINS.

The 1866 15c Lincoln is one of the most difficult denominations to obtain in such choice used condition. The most common barrier to a high grade is the size of the side margins, which are often narrow. The stamp offered here is the exception. It has wide and balanced margins on all four sides.

With 1980, 1993 and 2007 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo). By way of comparison, the P.S.E. Population Report lists only one at this grade and two at 98. (Image)
