Ample margins to touching at right, tied by target cancel with Christiansted circular datestamp on cover to Owatonna Minn., manuscript "Brazilian Steamer" directive at top left red "10c", cover sent via British packet with Great Britain 1865, 4p Vermilion (A13; SG Z10), plate 10, letter E-C, tied by barred "C51" of St. Thomas with red "St. Thomas Paid MY 18 69" circular datestamp, "Steamship 10" in circle at top, cover slightly reduced at left and couple minor toned spots, 4p with pulled perf at top VERY FINE. A REMARKABLE AND RARE COMBINATION COVER FROM THE DANISH WEST INDIES AND SENT PARTIALLY PAID VIA THE BRITISH POST OFFICE IN ST. THOMAS TO THE UNITED STATES. The manuscript "10c" was indicating payment for the Brazilian packet line and U.S. postage. The Brazilian steamer Mississippi failed to arrive in St. Thomas due to being shipwrecked off the coast of Martinique. Therefore, this cover went via British packet to Havana and New York where 10c U.S. postage was due. Ex Arnold.
