1431 c Image10c Green, Ty. I (31). Horizontal strip of three, few short perfs at top, used with 3c Dull Red, Ty. III (26), tied by grid cancels, "Fitchburgh Mass. Oct. 15" circular datestamp on 1859 yellow cover to Melbourne, Australia, red crayon "28" credit and Boston backstamp, red London Paid transit datestamp (Oct. 31), with original letter enclosed

VERY FINE. A RARE STRIP OF THREE OF THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE I ON A COVER TO AUSTRALIA.

The Type I stamps, with design complete at bottom, only come from the bottom row of the plate. This strip is scarce, and possibly unique used on a cover to Australia. It pays the 33c British Mail via Southampton rate to Australia.
