157   Carriers & Locals, Collection Balance. Old-time collection balance mounted in a Scott album, most interesting is Brainard & Co. 5c Blue (24L2) on a folded cover dated May 29, 1844, which would be the earliest known use by more than a month, but we are not convinced it originates, still a scarce used stamp and offered as is, rest of the album contains a variety of off-cover and on-cover locals, including American Letter Mail covers (5L1, also 5L3 which did not originate), range of Blood's covers, Brown & Co. 1c (29L1, Scott Retail $1,000.00), Cole's City Despatch Post No. 40L6 on cover which probably did not originate, East River on cover (62L4), Hanford tied on piece (78L1), Wells Letter Express pair with Boyd's oval (96L1, Scott Retail $1,000.00), three unused Pony Express and three used Virginia City Pony Express off-cover, mixed condition with flaws to be found, still a decent balance with some better items
