16 og Image1c-50c 1894-95 Issue, Imperforate (253a-258a, 264a-275a). Complete set of the 3c-5c and 10c pairs of the unwatermarked issue (only these four exist imperforate) and pairs of the watermarked issue through the 50c, original gum (50c no gum), some h.r. or disturbance, ample to large margins, a couple trivial flaws including faint ink mark on 50c, overall Very Fine, in Brookman Volume III, pages 128-129, a complete account of the origin of the 1895 Imperforates is quoted from a column by George B. Sloane, although the Scott Catalogue at first did not recognize the imperforates, from 1916 they inserted a statement "All denominations of this issue exist imperforate but they were not regularly issued in that condition" (Image)

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1894 5-CENT UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY.

It is believed that most examples of this error originate from a part sheet purchased by a collector at the Richmond Va. post office. Most tend to be off center.

Brookman notes that the source of this error is likely a Western post office. Most examples we have encountered are centered to the left to varying degrees.

25   Image8c Violet Brown, USIR Watermark (272a). With clear "R" of watermark, deep rich color, neat strike of town datestamp, Very Fine and choice, the "USIR" (United States Internal Revenue) watermark error occurred when a supply of paper reserved for revenue stamp production was used for printing the 6c and 8c postage stamps, there are approximately 75 known of the 8c, but many are either off-center or have flaws, collectors prefer examples showing the "R" watermark, as this letter is unquestionably from "USIR", with 1998 P.F. certificate (Image)
