A SPECTACULAR COMBINATION OF THE THREE 1902 DOLLAR VALUES, PAYING A LEGITIMATE POSTAL RATE FROM HAWAII, USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF SENDING TROPICAL PLANTS FOR EXHIBITION AT THE 1904 LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION. THIS IS THE EARLIEST DOCUMENTED USE OF BOTH THE $2.00 AND $5.00.

This canvas wrapper enclosed a parcel of tropical plants, the Bird's Nest Fern, sent by N. E. Lemmon to David R. Francis, President of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company. It is one of the few recorded covers with a complete set of 1902 dollar values, the only known non-philatelic use and the earliest documented use of both the $2.00 and $5.00. The Hawaiian origin for 1902 dollar values is also believed to be singularly represented by this example. This is a 20th Century cover of the greatest rarity and postal history significance and a highlight of the Brody collection (Image)

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE USE OF THE TWO TOP VALUES OF THE 1902 ISSUE ON A COMPLETE COVER TO SWITZERLAND. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BRODY COLLECTION.

There are fewer than ten known uses of each of the $2.00 and $5.00 values on covers or large portions of parcel pieces. This combination of the two, used alone on a complete cover to an overseas address, is of the greatest rarity.
