3246 c Image15c Post Office (O53). Detailed impression, tied by cork on orange cover to the postmaster at South Scituate R.I., opened at sides, some edge tears

VERY FINE APPEARANCE AND VERY RARE. PERHAPS FOUR OR FIVE COVERS ARE KNOWN WITH THE 15-CENT POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL ISSUE.

The 15c stamp pays the five-times 3c domestic rate. Judging by the size of this cover, it likely held a regulation manual or accounting of some sort. Robert Markovits recorded only four covers in total (2004 Bennett sale). We are not sure whether this is one of the four -- this is offered to the market for the first time and was found by us in an old-time New England collection formed in the 1920's and 1930's. (Image)

Feb. 15, 1875", military content discussing strategy for troop placements, some splitting along folds of contents sensibly reinforced, Very Fine (Image)
