386 S ImageCAYMAN ISLANDS, 1901-07, -1/2p-5sh King Edward VII, Madagascar Specimens (3S-7S, 13S-16S; SG 3S-7S, 13S-16S). Large complete ledger page 133 featuring a set of the 1901-03 -1/2p-1sh with "Specimen" overprints and five sets of the 1907 4p-5sh with "Specimen" overprints, each stamp affixed and provided with a red "Postes et Telegraphes/Madagascar, Collection de Berne" handstamp, signed at bottom right by "Le Directeur des Postes et Telegraphes", some stamps damaged when separated from each other

VERY FINE. A RARE AND UNIQUE SHEET FROM THE MADAGASCAR ARCHIVES. A TERRIFIC ITEM FOR THE CAYMAN ISLANDS SPECIALIST.

Generally, strips of five were sent by the Universal Postal Union (U.P.U.) to member nations. The Madagascar Archives would separate these strips and affix them to ledger pages. We are unsure why only one set of the 1901-03 Issue was provided.

Complete set of five values, without gum as usual (these were originally affixed to ledger), the 1p Carmine Rose with rare broken "M" in "Specimen" variety (position 7/5 of both panes), Very Fine, a mere 25 sets of these U.P.U. specimens were sent to Lisbon and received the "Ultramar" overprint with the broken "M" variety being unique, it is not believed that any of the other values have this combination, ex Maisel (Image)
