St. Q." instead of date slug, signed by Military Magistrate Clifford St. Quentin, Very Fine and scarce, these were created after the "VR Special Post" overprints when this individual found a supply of pre-Boer occupation Cape stamps, date slugs were missing so he signed each stamp to show proper use (Image)

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-PENNY V.R. SPECIAL POST. ONLY 60 COPIES WERE ISSUED.

In May 1900, the British retook Vryburg from the Boer forces. They subsequently began overprinting South African Republic stamps with this overprint in retaliation for the Boers doing the same on Cape of Good Hope stamps (Nos. N1-4). Small quantities are known to exist for each value.
