VERY FINE. A REMARKABLE AND RARE COMBINATION COVER FROM PILGRIM'S REST TO THE UNITED STATES USING BOTH TRANSVAAL AND CAPE OF GOOD HOPE STAMPS.
This small town in Transvaal was settled after the discovery of alluvial gold deposits by prospector Alec Patterson. Patterson moved from Mac-Mac, a distance of about 5 km, which was the first place where payable quantities of gold were found. By 1873, when officially declared a gold field, the town suddenly grew to over 1,500 inhabitants.
Jorgensen Census No. 70. One of only 5 covers paying this rate. Ex Crocker and Riesco. With 1966 A. Diena certificate. (Image)
