3348 E   image1917 (11 Apr) cover (opened for display) from Umtali, Rhodesia, franked with 1d George V and 2d King and Queen, tied by departure pmks, addressed to a Private Rivers of the Southern Rhodesian Volunteers, in care of N.F.F., backstamped in Chinde, Zomba and Blantyre, censored by the Portuguese and Nyasaland authorities. Mail sent to members of N.F.F. is seldom seen, as it was undoubtedly difficult for the troops to save letters while combating Germans in the back country (Image)

No.5 double circle cds, fine (the main goal of the Belgians was to take over the German provinces of Ruanda and Urundi. Once that was accomplished, 250 Congo Belge stamps were hand overprinted with each of the two names to celebrate the capture of those areas). This "Postes Militaire" field post cancel was supplied in 1916, but rejected, because of its "French only" (without the equivalent Flemish) inscription.
