On the return flight, the airship flew twice over Athens, since due to bad weather, mail could not be dropped the first time. Dropped the second time, a bag containing about 480 letters was found two days later by a shepherd delivering milk to Athens (Si.23c, unpriced) (Image)

It flew very low because of heavy fog. The mailbag was found the next day". This private drop card was tossed out by a crew member Thassler, addressed to Georg Sobetzky. 114 E   imageZeppelin Flights. 1929 balance of the Fred Blau award-winning collection on pages expertly written-up, with 40+ covers and cards, including various frankings, destinations and cachets, postcard addressed to Kaiser Wilhelm in Holland, another signed by Capt. A.Lehmann, different types of Er Ramle drop postmarks, Contract States mail from Austria and Danzig, card with Palestine franking added, steel (brick red) cachets (only about 250 known), board mail (26.3.29) cancels posted in the last minutes before mail drop, cover addressed to the Philippines (dropped over Er Ramle, by van to Jaffa, by rail to Port Said and by packet via Singapore to the Philippines). In addition there are copies of letters/contracts dated 1898 signed by Melanie David Schwarz (widow of David Schwarz, a Croatian-Hungarian aviation pioneer born in the Austrian Empire, known for creating an airship with a rigid envelope made entirely of metal. He died only months before the airship was flown. 115 E   imageZeppelin Flights. 1929 First America Flight, registered cover from Jerusalem 18 May, 1929, addressed to Cleveland, Ohio, attractively franked with 10 different Mandate adhesives, canceled by oval Jerusalem departure pmks, mailed too late to be carried on the first 1929 attempt to cross the Atlantic (the airship was forced to make an emergency landing in Cuers, near Toulouse and later returned to its German base). In the meantime, this cover went by surface mail to USA, then to Friedrichshafen, where German 5M postage was added to pay for further transmission on the First America Flight back to Cleveland, with 5c U.S. adhesive (Aeronautics) on back for Air Mail Delivery from New York to Cleveland, fine and impressive combination cover from Jerusalem, probably the only known from Palestine on this flight (Image)
