591 cover 1944-45 image1944-45, Twice-Forwarded Cover from Portland, Ore. to Pitcairn Island, censored cover franked with a 3¢ "Win the War" canceled Portland, 21 Nov 1944, and addressed to Frederick P. Ward on Pitcairn; it was then redirected to Wahroonga, N.S.W. with a 30 Jan 1945 Pitcairn c.d.s.; and from there to the the Australian Missionary College at Cooranbong, N.S.W. with a Wahroonga c.d.s. (2 May 1945) on the reverse., Very Fine. The reason for the long periods btw deliveries is that, during ww2, it was often six months or more btw Supply/Postal Ship arrivals at the island.


Ward served on Pitcairn for seven years as a Seventh-Day Adventist teacher and minister. He returned to Australia in September of 1944, a month before this letter was mailed. He would return to Pitcairn in 1946 and serve for another five years.
