Four-margin examples of the 5¢ 1856 issue are seldom seen because there was very little space between the stamps. This issue is one of the few that has significantly increased in catalog value in recent years. In 2021, the catalog value for no gum was $15,000 and today the value has nearly doubled to $27,500. 2030 og 19 image1857, 1¢ blue, type Ia (Scott 19), position 93L4 with full sheet selvage at bottom allowing for the complete design to be present, part o.g. covering well over 60% of the reverse, beautiful deep blue color and a detailed proof-like impression on radiant white paper, Very Fine for this issue, which is notoriously impossible to find well centered because of the miniscule space between stamps at the top and bottom. With one original gum example appearing every two years on average, collectors realized the rarity and competed aggressively, causing the catalog value to nearly triple from $15,000 in 1999 to $42,500. Considering this stamp is sound with full sheet selvage at bottom, this is a true condition rarity, with 2001 P.F. certificate inexplicably stating "small part o.g."

2035 ng 22 image1857, 1¢ blue, type IIIa (Scott 22), position 46L12, bright color, typical centering, very tiny tear at top only visible in fluid, unused without gum, Very Fine. Scott prices plate 11 and 12 o.g. at $2,400 vs $2,200 for plate 4, but does not price plate 11 and 12 as no gum, so we used the plate 4 no gum price. this is a scarce unused example of this desirable Plate 12 position which Neinken specifically discusses on page 495 -- "46L12m a Type IIIA stamp, with the outer curved line broken at the bottom. The outer curved line at the top is very weak. In fact, on some impressions, this line almost disappears, but this author has not seen any copies which deserve a Type III classification. The relief is quite different from all other "B" relief positions on the plate. To this author, it seems to be an exact duplicate of the "T" relief from Plate 11. This position has been carefully studied by Mr. Elliott Perry and this author. It is our conclusion that the entry could not possibly have been from the "B" relief of Plate 12. The entry shows a relief which is considerably more complete at the bottom, particularly the left plume. Perhaps, through error, the siderographer picked up the Plate 11 transfer roll and made a single entry. It is possible that he used the vertical guide line as a guide. Plates 11 and 12 were made at about the same time and both transfer rolls may have been in possession of Toppan, Carpenter & Co. at the time. This must have een an original entry. The horizontal space between all other entries of the "C" relief over the "B" are the same throughout the plate except the space between 36L12 and 46L12….", with 2015 Weiss certificate.

2039 og 27 image1858, 5¢ brick red, type I (Scott 27), perfectly centered with equal space between the design and the perforations, accompanying certificate notes a single toned perf which has been removed, a tiny thin spot at left center and an added perf tip at upper left, both of which cannot be seen when the stamp is in your album, o.g., previously hinged, lovely Extremely Fine appearance. The earliest documented use of this issue is October 6, 1858, and when the 1851 and 1857 issues were demonetized at the start of the Civil War in 1861, very few remained in Southern post offices (unlike the 90¢ which has an EDU of Sept. 11, 1860 and saw little use). It has been estimated that 20-30 mint o.g. examples of Scott 27 exist. Most are poorly centered and faulty, with 2006 P.F. certificate.
