General Collections
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
2001   imagePowerful, Highly Complete, Unused & Used Collection, 1845-2015 (Scott 9X1//RW82), residing in a single Scott National volume, fully mounted (even for stamps he was waiting to obtain) the collection has a handful of certificates, it is easier to list the items not present than present, stamps range from used, unused appearing, unused, mint original gum and mint never hinged from completely sound to faulty. Starts with a #9X1 unused with cert, #3-4 are card proofs, missing from the regularly issued stamps: #5, 6, 8, 19, 21, 22, 66, 74 (india proof included), 80-82, 84, 85A, 85C, 85D-85F, 1869 Re-issues have #126-127, 130 and132, missing 314A, placeholders for #316-318, 321-322, missing 3¢, 4¢, 8¢, and 10¢ bluish papers (we do not like the 5¢), also missing #388-389, 482A, 613, includes used examples of #539 (we do not like the cancel), #544 and others, runs through #770a and turns to Airmails which are complete mint through 2012 (even includes a facsimile of #C3a), Special Deliveries complete mint, sporadic Postage Dues & Officials, Duck Stamps start in 1936 and are spotty until 1973 where it appears to be complete (less the high ticket souvenir sheets) to 2015. The collector purchased to seek and fill the spaces in the album, with no specific quality constraints and progressed upwards with quality and scarcity as he matured; there are faults but also many of the key items that are so seldom left in collection format are here. The pages are missing for the perf 10 and perf 11 Washington-Franklin pages and stamps (#424-440, 462-478, 498-518). We suggest careful examination to truly ascertain this one's value, as our estimate is on the conservative side; one can view the collection in its entirety online. 2003   image"Upper Crust" Awe-inspiring Mint Collection, 1851-2012, Some people are content with just filling up spaces in their albums, while others strive for perfection. It is obvious, this collector belonged to the latter. In four White Ace albums and all stamps in black mounts, a handful of used early on but otherwise all mint, and from the looks of it, almost entirely never hinged. And it wasn't just the gum side that the collector played close attention to, as is so often the case, but the centering and freshness of color is overall way above average. There are two volumes for regular issues up until 1954, one volume with very nearly complete commemoratives until 1936, and lastly, complete airmails until 2012. Mint highlights as mounted include #26, 113, 157, 206, 210, 213-14, 219-29, 230-40, 242, 246-48, 250, 250a, 254-56, 263, 264-73, 279-84, 285-92, 294-99, 300-10, 314 (pair), 320 (pair), 323-27, 328-30, 331-41, 343-48 (pairs), 353 (pair), 357-58, 369, 374-82, 385 (pair), 390-91 (pairs), 397-404, 405-07, 408-13 (pairs), 408-09 (Kansas City Roulettes in blocks of four), 414-18, 420, 424-38, 441-43 (pairs), 448 (pair), 452 (pair), 454-55 (pairs), 457-58 (pairs), 459 (pair), 462-74 (minus 467), 479-80, 486-89 (pairs), 492-97 (pairs), 498-518 (minus 505), 519, 524, 525-30, 531-34A (pairs), 540-41, 546, 547, 548-50, 551-73, 578-59, 581-91, 595, 597-606 (pairs), 630, 634A, 658-79, 692-701, 803-34, 839-51 (pairs), C1-6, C13-15, E3, E5-14, F1, J1, J3, J22-25, J31-32, J38-41, J45-46, J48-49, J52-53, J55-57, J69-78, J79-87, K1-18, O15-20, O36, O47-53, O55, O74, O76-79, O89, O91, PR1, PR57-58, PR62, PR81-82, PR121-25, Q1-12, JQ1-3. 2037 704-715 imageWashington Bicentennial Specialist Collection, 1932 (Scott 704-715), 130 hand-made pages with typed descriptions, photographic prints of drawings, and Washington Bicentennial examples of constant plate varieties on old time quadrille pages; perhaps half of the examples in mint singles, plate number blocks, and partial sheets originally created are present and represent a cross between the best scholarship of a classic specialist and a love letter to the hobby; when a jury determines Rarity it examines "difficulty of acquisition", how hard would it be to reassemble the exhibit, and between the hand made pages, typed descriptions, inserted photo line drawings, and the scarce philatelic material - this lot is rare; includes copy of Chapter XXVI (Washington Bicentennial Issue) as published in United States Postage Stamps of the 20th Century; also includes Explots of George Washington (1933), #704-715 perfins, and a few dozen on cover; philately at its finest, the high bidder will be delighted, Fine to Very Fine.
