4184 cover 6LB5b imageNew York, N.Y., U.S. City Despatch Post, 1842-45, 3¢ black on blue (Scott 6LB5b), attractive stamp with large, even margins, tied to folded letter sheet (datelined May 15, 1845) by red "US" in frame with matching "U.S. City Despatch Post" Type II postmark and arced "PAID" handstamp plus blue manuscript "3" alongside; addressed locally, the letter was prepaid and handed into the Post Office who then turned it over to the carrier service—thus receiving the Post Office's "PAID" and "3" markings first; stamp with a few surface scuffs, cover with central vertical file fold, Fine to Very Fine.
