133 cover   imageW M Grandy Personal Archives, 1899-1988, two binders and a few folders from a man described as, "Pioneer cachet designer, stamp collector, writer, sculptor, painter, historian, antique dealer, postcard collector, ardent supporter of the Annual Tri-State Collector's Exhibition, one time president of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society, the All States Hobby Club the Connecticut Philatelic Society" (and it goes on like this for some time). Lot includes submission for Connecticut Tercentenary stamp, letter to print concerning unauthorized color varieties, 1935 letter on personal stationery asking forgiveness for a faux pas, several 8 x 10 photographs including Connecticut Philatelic Society Bourse (including women and children), Stamps magazine "King of Cachets" certificates from 1935 and 1936, American Cover Club Board of Review Certificate of Merit (1935) and Certificate of Award (1939), about 50 pages of personal correspondence with customers and philatelic friends, his WWII Army Air Force Observer armband, a dozen negatives used to create his cachets, and an inscribed (from Grandy) FDC Photo Cachet Catalog of his work; it also contains his 50 or so membership cards (like APS in 1922) and the two original binders and pages which held his personal collection; bonus two letters from The White House (with April and October 1935 envelopes) thanking Grandy for covers he sent to the President (Stamp Collector in Chief); interesting glimpse into the mind of an artist and lifelong collector, Fine to Very Fine, unique.
