4042 R102c imageRevenue, 1864, First Issue, $200 U.S. Internal Revenue, perf'd (Scott R102c), seven copies affixed to six different pages of a 36 page Indenture/Lease, dated May 1, 1871, in which The Delaware and Hudson Canal Co. leased the entire holdings of the Rensselaer & Saratoga Railroad Co., including the other small railroads that the R. & S. R.R. had acquired; among the assets transferred were 37 Locomotives, more 950 Cars of various types, and "Shop Machinery at Troy, Whitehall, Rutland & Salem", with a total value of $1,026,967. An important historical Railroad document, in somewhat rough, easily read condition, the stamps with mostly minor flaws, though one is torn in half where is crosses a document fold.


The Delaware & Hudson Canal Co. added the Rensselaer & Saratoga to the other smaller railroads it had built or acquired, primarily to more efficiently move coal from the coal fields of Pennsylvania up through New York along the Hudson River as far as Rutland Vt.
