1938, Presidential Series, Artist's Original Artwork (Scott 804-E), preliminary artwork submitted by an unknown artist for
the 1937 contest to design the 1¢ George Washington stamp for the proposed 1938 Presidential Series. This group is composed of 15 pencil drawings of various designs or smaller details of frame or text designs (only one is a "complete"
design), nine large photographic blow-ups (about 8"x10" overall) of various completed designs and nine stamp-size photographic reductions of same (only three different). Also included are two engravings of Washington upon which some of the designs
are based, and a small (damaged) envelope that was apparently included with this artist's submission, bearing the typed inscription, "Design for Presidential Series U.S. Postage Stamp. Name & Address Enclosed" [not present], and manuscript submission
