Forwarding Merchants of St. Louis, dated Thursday, Oct. 16, 1856, the blank page bearing a letter datelined Oct. 17; a robust strike of the route agent's c.d.s. in blue ties a nearly four-margined #11A (right margin just shaved in middle);
addressed to Macomb, Ill., with manuscript "Sam Galy" at lower left; small internal split at cross-fold, but otherwise fresh and sound, Very Fine, scarce; Simpson-Alexander Rarity 8; only 4-6 recorded, ex Beale.
The mail
contract for Route 8812 from St. Louis to Keokuk, Iowa, was let to the Keokuk Steam Packet Company in September 1854. The terms called for six weekly trips during the navigational season over the 206-mile route. (Image)
